Language

If you were to walk the halls of any high school you would be surprised. The amount of foul things said is mind-boggling. And very depressing. Most teenagers speak the same five words when it comes to talking amongst their peers and it wouldn't shock me if they spoke that way in other places as well.  The world is losing its language. People abbreviate and abbreviate and abbreviate. Kids no longer know how to write. Here are some examples of texting shortcuts. Let's see how many you know. LOL- Laugh out Loud IKR- I Know Right TBH- To Be Honest TTYL- Talk to you later IDK-I Don't Know TY-Thank You SMH-Shake My Head NVM-Never Mind K-Okay Get my point? (And for the record I only use about three of those on the list. I type out most of my words when texting.) Anyway, the world is losing its language. People are choosing to shorten things, less face-to-face action is occurring, and the effect: words are losing their meaning and value. People have less vocabulary than they used t...

Realizing

Realizing A small tree grows towards the sun. Barely a foot large, its life has just begun.  It takes in the sun, the air, the soil.  And it grows, tall, strong, and determined. It grows until it can’t. The older trees have seemed to block its way. And it feels trapped. Every day becomes a struggle. Light has been blocked. The rainwater taken by others. The tree can no longer grow. She doesn’t grow but she stays the same. Just enough rain, just enough sun, just enough soil to stay alive. To make it by. But not enough to grow. And before she even knew that this would happen. It did. And now it’s too late. Only one thing can free the tree. She needs help, but she must allow it. To free herself from her feelings, her struggles, and her past. And then the woodcutter arrives. Dressed in black. And how long she has waited for this day. But he doesn’t help her.  He trims the trees far across the field. And she feels paralyzed. Her only comfort is her owner. A man dressed ...

Design

I found a dimpled spider, fat and white, On a white heal-all, holding up a moth Like a white piece of rigid satin cloth-- Assorted characters of death and blight Mixed ready to begin the morning right, Like the ingredients of a witches' broth-- A snow-drop spider, a flower like a froth, And dead wings carried like a paper kite. What had that flower to do with being white, The wayside blue and innocent heal-all? What brought the kindred spider to that height, Then steered the white moth thither in the night? What but design of darkness to appall?-- If design govern in a thing so small. ~Robert Frost This poem is not mine but I love it! There is so much depth in just two paragraphs. I actually got to study this poem at school and I fell in love with the meaning of it.  The poem talks about a spider, a moth, and a white flower. Typically we see a spider as a bad thing since it tends to be scary and eats other things. We could see the moth as innocent and good since it doesn't do m...

Field of Flowers

A field of green.  A singing river. A line of trees.  A red carnation blooms. For few to see.  And when the sun barely peaks the trees a visitor comes. He runs the length of the field and back. The flowers sway in the breeze. The sun crests the sky and falls again. The visitor returns. He gathers firewood and trims the trees. He says not a word. No expression on his face. The flowers sway in the breeze. He doesn’t seem to notice them. The rain falls from the sky and the flowers welcome it. The visitor runs across the field. He smiles as the sun pokes through the clouds. It shines on the flowers. For the first time, he sees. The visitor lets the flowers be.  But he doesn’t forget them.  As they grow towards the sun, towards the sky, for few to see.  The birds learn to fly. The leaves on the trees are welcomed. The grass grows greener, fuller. The visitor appears more and more. He smiles often and laughs to himself. He watches the flowers as they grow....

Living Without Our Lives

“How can we live without our lives? How will we know it’s us without our past?” -John Steinbeck I came across this quote and it completely baffled me. It makes a rather good point. Our past is what makes us who we are. Without it who are we? Who we are now is a collection of all memories, and experiences of what happened in the past. So in other words that means our lives are the past. I would also add that our lives are in the present moment too because we are currently living our lives.  Think about it though. If we took away every single thing that happened in our lives in the past it would take away who we are. It would be like starting over as a baby. We would have to learn everything again like learning to walk. But it would also take away the bigger things like the events in our lives that have defined us and shaped us into who we are. And even if we don't have a big moment that defined us what about all the little moments that made us into who we are? Life is complicated. ...

We Are Like Arrows

" The scene presented from this view is as a thousand arrows shot from the same point and aimed at the same object. United in aim, they are divided in flight. Some fly too high, others too low. Some go to the right, others to the left. Some fly too far and others, not far enough, and only a few hit the mark. Such is life. United in the quiver, they are divided in the air. Matched when dormant, they are unmatched in action."  -Unknown   I love this quote. It has such beautiful imagery.  I think this quote describes people very well. In the beginning, people have the same destination or goal. But sometimes people start going and they end up going in a different direction and they never meet their goal.  This quote kind of goes along with the phrase easier said than done. It is easy to name a goal but much harder to actually achieve it.   I have a feeling there are more goals started than there are finished.  I like how the quote goes into detail about how peo...

Love Isn't What Hurt You

"I have to remember it is not love that has hurt me; but someone who could not love me in the right way." ~R. YS Perez I really like this quote a lot. I feel like in books and TV shows, sometimes in real life, people claim they are done with love because they have been hurt. They don't want to risk getting their heart broken again because love has hurt them. But it is really love that broke your heart or the person you fell for? It can be tempting to give up on love. To just say it's not worth it. Love has failed me. Love hasn't failed you. Love will always exist. It creeps in on us and suddenly we find the person across the room has caught our eye. The question is not does love occur but does love last? And that has everything to do with the person we fall in love with.  I want to define what I believe this quote means by "love me in the right way."  -This means that the circumstances are allowing a relationship.  -The relationship is healthy, balanced...
