Dancing
Stepping into a dark room.
Feels too empty.
We’re lacking in numbers.
We walk around the gym,
Admiring the glow of neon.
Our reliance on the black lights.
People make excuses,
But they're missing out.
No one can get this back.
I stop caring about their opinions.
I stop caring if no one else is dancing.
I stop caring about my thoughts,
the little disappointments.
I am,
Dancing.
Nothing matches the sheer joy of moving.
Jiving to the beat.
And making friends with the rhythm.
Dancing is wonderful.
Glorious.
And if they would only forget about everyone else…
They would get lost in the beat…
The madness.
The freedom of...
Dancing.
And oh when that one song comes on.
Everyone joins in the simple steps.
And the room is filled with dancing,
Dancing.
And then a slow song reverberates.
And I wish and I hope,
Someone, anyone, will ask me to dance.
There aren’t many asking this time.
You take my hand and spin me around.
Oh, dancing is better,
With you.
Turn me out.
And back in.
You bring me in close.
And then we sway to the song again.
It’s like the rest of the room has…
f a d e d a w a y…
And it’s just you and me,
Dancing.
Sometimes they tag us.
And we run half across the room.
Laughing.
I drag you into a line dance.
You tell me you can’t dance,
And you compare yourself to him.
But you can.
You can dance.
And I watch you do it.
I remember,
The dance I couldn’t dance,
Wearing a silver dress.
I forgot how much fun,
Dancing can be.
I miss this.
The feel of music.
The movements are so free.
Even if I miss the steps.
Or totally mess it up.
I don’t care.
I’m dancing.
When I look back,
I’ll say it was fun.
I wasn’t standing still.
I was dancing.
Go get swept away.
Find the sheer joy of,
Dancing.
